Safety communication for the general public – how do we determine and then communicate benefit/risk?

3:40 PM - 4:05 PM

The evaluation of the benefits and harms associated with medicines is a complicated subject. Detailed qualitative and quantitative methodologies have been developed for these assessments, and because of their complexity they are difficult to explain to the general public. In fact, just explaining the basic concepts related to risk and relative risk is tricky. Therefore, innovative ways of communicating the benefits and risks associated with medicines has become an art. This session will explore how these concepts are being transmitted to the public and how the medical writer can facilitate these communications.
